My Students

We love to drum! Have you ever had the opportunity to create community music? My students love playing drums and other world instruments together, but we have bigger class sizes this year and not enough instruments.

My students love to drum.

They love to sing. They are great kids who wear their hearts on their sleeves. Many of them come from dysfunctional homes and are considered "at-risk". These are 6th graders, beginning their middle school lives. They still have the innocence of childhood, but the "teenage" world is opening up to them. In music, they able to express themselves through song and through drumming.

My Project

My students are learning African and Caribbean drumming and singing. I am requesting a tubano, shekeres, and claves so that every student will have an instrument to play in our drumming ensemble. When each student has a special part to play, they not only learn musical skills, but they also gain the valuable feeling of community.

By donating to this project, you have the opportunity to actually put instruments in the hands of young people.

You will help them to be a part of a community of musicians. Feeling like they are part of something greater than themselves will keep them connected to school and to each other.
