My students are great. They are future scholars (mostly!) and excellent citizens. They are fortunate to attend one of the most diverse schools in the country. They take advantage of this diversity and learn from each others' cultures and traditions. I especially appreciate the 10-15 students who regularly come to my room at lunch to play chess. Our school is in the heart of Los Angeles, but it also has a good neighborhood feel. I am lucky to be here!
My Project
My students will be taking a field trip to the beautiful Theatricum Botanicum in Topenga Canyon to watch a performance of Twelfth Night. Unfortunately, we do not have this play at my school. With these books we can read the play before attending the theater. This will allow students to familiarize themselves with Shakespearean language and themes.
For many of my students, this will be their first experience with Shakespeare.
Twelfth Night is a great place to start. The play is funny, bizarre, modern, and accessible to everyone.
Reading and viewing this play will make a difference as it will prepare students for all the Shakespeare they will encounter in high school and college.
