Ms. GOODMAN from Antioch, TN is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Ms. GOODMAN is requestingMy students need a class set of the New York Times best selling book: Shadow Shaper by Daniel Jose Older. This book is a great read for our study of mythology, and mysticism in literature.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Brand new scared freshman enter into my class to learn to become great thinkers, readers, writers, and Global Citizens. My kids hail from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. They speak about 117 languages, vary in size, shape, sexual orientation, gender identification, socioeconomic status, race, and intellectual ability. I teach, my students learn, and we do it all while trying to create a rigorous learning environment, a safe space, and home away from home.
My classroom is often the first classroom that students enter as a high school student; I aim to make it the most memorable one as well.
My students are reluctant readers, and the traditional study of mythology can be daunting. This title, Shadowshaper, will help me to teach the Hero's journey. Students will have to write a literary analysis of the hero in this book as it pertains to Joseph Campbell's teaching of the hero's journey.
Our mythology unit contains essential literary elements that students will need to review prior to end of the year testing.
We will be studying all kinds of myths from all over the world, and we will also be studying to see how mythology and myths are used in the modern novel. Please help us reach our goal of a million words!
