My Project

The first grade students at my school are creative, curious, and hard-working. They are always ready to explore something new that enhances their learning in the classroom.

As a caring teacher, I want to encourage my students to show their learning in unique ways, while teaching them life skills they can use in many ways.

By using sewing machines in science, art will be integrated in general education. Students have been tracking the weather every day and creating paper quilts. I want to offer students an after-school sewing class where students can learn how to turn their paper quilts into real ones.

These sewing machines will benefit students by cultivating a love for learning, trying new things, and incorporating a variety of school subjects. These machines will be used in art class for different projects, math class for measurement units, and in an after-school club put on by me, their teacher, for a science connection.

Last school year I did a DonorsChoose fundraiser for sewing machines and received 5. The after-school class was such a hit that twenty students learned how to sew! I want to expand the class to more students this year, which means more machines are needed. We appreciate your support!
