Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an art teacher I feel that it is important to introduce my students to as many opportunities and art mediums as possible. My goal is to get them to think outside of the box and to try new things, including different mediums and approaches to tried and true mediums. I want to teach them to sew and add these stitches to watercolor paintings, batiks, gelli prints, and drypoint etchings and so much more.

I feel that this will give them a chance to take their art to a new level by using thread and stitches to add texture, line, and pattern to their artwork.

So many of my students love to work with their hands and manipulate different materials to create something new. This is a great new medium that can be used in so many different ways and with a variety of traditional art mediums.

I am asking for your help to purchase a sewing machine and other basic supplies needed to get started sewing. I would like them to learn how to use a sewing machine as well as learn to sew by hand and create many different decorative stitches. They can explore how adding actual texture to their artwork will change the look, mood, and feel of it. Adding new approaches to traditional art offers a new experience and will enhance what the students are learning in the classroom, and hopefully get them excited to try new things.
