Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a club that meets during lunch time and would like to experience hands on projects. Sewing as we know it is a life skill passed down from generation to generation. I would like to learn alongside my students this craft. It is amazing to see art come alive.

The goal for thsi project is that students go from the theory and what they see on TV.

I want them to make something with their hands and share it with the world. Also, I feel this is something that can help them later on in life when they are faced with needing to replace a button, stitch some pants together, or make a pillowcase to sleep and rest on at the end of the day crafted from their hands.

I want everyone to know that what makes my students special is their resiliency in the face of adversity. Many of my students come from different countries beating the odds and facing challenges unimaginable to get here and better themselves and have a brighter future. They also feel a sense of community joining me during lunch time to talk about cultures, values, and traditions all within a safety net. I want them to also have activities. What better way than a sewing activity? I know they will remember forever and ever.
