Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Fast Fashion is a trending issue that our students are interested in learning more about, especially how to re-purpose old clothing and create something new. Our students are learning basic hand sewing and embroidery techniques to update their wardrobes. They will soon be ready to use sewing machines to tackle bigger projects. To be a good seamstress or tailor, we need the right materials. Therefore, we are requesting sewing machines and related materials for this project.

Sewing encourages creativity and resourcefulness, improves their hand-eye coordination, and hones their measurement skills.

Students learned to follow specific instructions, problem-solve and be patient, and persevere when the work is frustrating. Most importantly they are building new relationships! As they sit in their sewing circles, they begin sharing stories of their families and how sewing has been a part of their lives. The impact this project has had on our students is amazing!
