Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love coming to art class! We follow the Teaching Artistic Behavior model of art education which teaches students to think like an artist. Students must be creative, learn to problem solve, be able to communicate ideas, communicate with peers and more.

Each class is unique and special; our learning is entirely student lead.

Student's ideas and inspiration are always at the center of our classroom. Students, like artists, have their own ideas of what is important, what they are interested in, and what they want to share with the world. In our classroom they are given a space to do all of those things! You won't see the same project twice!

We are a Title I school in Southeast Houston, TX with over 850 artists in residence (students)!

My Project

My students already have a deep love of fiber arts. We love to weave, embroider and hand sew. These sewing machines will allow us to dig deeper into the beautiful world of fiber arts.

We will focus on making plush toys, designing our own clothes and learning how to mend holes and fix buttons.

We will learn that a sewing machine is a tool used to create art just like paint, markers, and crayons. Learning how to use a sewing machine will additionally be beneficial to my students because many of their families do not have the means to buy new uniforms when one rips or a button is lost. Learning to do these simple repairs will not only help students but it will help our community.
