This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Sew What Next is the second part of the fifth-grade sewing series offered at our school. The first semester's class focuses on basic sewing skills. These skills include mending socks, replacing buttons, applying patches, and upcycling our personal textile items. Not to mention creating one-of-a-kind personal keepsakes, once our skills have strengthened.
It is time to use our measuring, cutting, and piecing skills with the requested fabric and scissors, to help children in our community receive a support blanket in their time of need.
Project Linus has agreed to accept our donation of completed fleece blankets and distribute them throughout St. Louis County. First responders, hospital staff, and foster organizations will have these "gifts of love" ready to allocate to any child experiencing trauma or need.
Our students are learning how to improve their lives through sewing, and this community service project will give them a chance to see how their skills and efforts can positively impact the lives of others.
