Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Fiber and textile arts are SEW interesting! Learning a craft like sewing is not just a useful skill, but it also helps stitch together the fabric of our past.

Most of my students come from a generation of parents who have never created sewn projects using a needle and thread, much less using the power and speed of a sewing machine.

Giving my students the tools to hone their sewing skills to become the next generation of fashion and textile designers is a step in the right direction for keeping art and science alive for the next generation. We currently have some smaller less reliable machines, but need to upgrade our machines to upgrade our skills.

We've made simple bags, quilt squares, and simple self-designed stuffed characters. Now we are ready to move into bigger projects such as clothing and home decoration items.
