My students need a Brother SE400 Computer Sewing Embroidery Machine, as well as felt to create and complete Felt Monsters; while we empower students through art!

My Students
Did you ever want to learn to sew? You would not believe how advanced sewing machines are today. Students can do amazing things with the right equipment. I would like for my students to see what they can create with a computerized sewing machine and a few pieces of felt!
My students live in a small rural community.
Many of them come from low economic backgrounds. Sewing is a skill that has been downplayed in recent years, but with today's available technology, sewing has gone hi-tech. My department has one computerized machine available, but it is difficult for a large class of students to share one machine. If we could get another machine, we could work out a rotation system so that all students could have the opportunity to use this type of machine. Also, if I could supply students with felt to use to make projects, they would not have to purchase fabric and patterns that can become fairly expensive. Students could also use their knowledge of color and design to incorporate art elements and principles into their projects-- "Empowering Students Through Art!"
My Project
If this project is funded, I envision asking students to draw a "Monster" or "Alien." Then they will use felt to transform their drawings into a 3D creation. They will use the computerized sewing machine to sew their monsters, and use the monogramming capabilities of the machine to put their monsters' names on it. We could even visit a kindergarten classroom and ask those students to draw a monster or alien and then my students could transform it into a Feltie and present it to the student who drew it! I want my students to see that sewing machines can be used in very creative, artistic ways, not just to sew up torn seams or make basic clothing.
Sewing is often thought of in a very stereotypical way.
Nothing could be further from the truth! Sewing can become a creative outlet for our students that they might never discover on their own. A student who is artistic can benefit from learning these skills. I have found it amazing what students can come up with when given the opportunity along with the materials to create!
