My Students

Art allows us to explore humanity near and far, old and new. At our school, our goals include creating opportunities for our students to do just that! Art is one of the most powerful tools we use to reach our students. As the art teacher, I have the privilege of working with every single one of them!

My students come from many ethnic, linguistic, and social backgrounds.

Nearly 60% of my students come from low-income households. For the majority of the students, English is their second language. The arts are critical for ALL students to show what they know, think, and feel and to develop the necessary 21st-century skills required to be successful in this rapidly changing and interconnected world.

My Project

One of the biggest requests from students during remote learning is for sewing supplies. Sewing and knitting are very therapeutic for students and something that is easy to start and stop without a lot of mess.

Sewing is a fun and portable way for students to create at home while building fine motor and math integration skills through art-making.

This project will provide reusable zip lock packs for checking out sewing kits and other materials to have at home. These materials will provide students with all the sewing supplies they need to knit, crochet, and sew pillows, stuffies, bags, or anything they dream of.
