This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, ambitious, and imaginative! In my classroom, they are given the opportunity to collaborate, problem solve, and think outside the box! Theatre gives them a chance to explore the world around them and share their findings with others! Students take theatre, dance and visual art weekly. There are over 850 students in attendance, 96% of whom receive free lunch. Statistically our school is 66% Hispanic, 30% Asian, 5% White or Black. 27% of students are English Language Learners and 15% are Special Needs students. My students take pride in being a part of our school community. They are a part of the Leader in Me program in which they follow the seven habits of happy kids (be proactive, put first things first, synergize, sharpen the saw, think win-win, seek first to understand, begin with the end in mind) and strive to be leaders in our school community. Leadership roles in theatre and dance include being a stage manager, dance assistant, assistant director, lighting director, sound director, and a member of stage crew. These positions allow the students to be leaders in our school's performing arts programs.

My Project

This year we have 89 third, fourth and fifth graders and 1 kindergartner participating in our school musical for a total of 90 cast members! We are thrilled to have so many students experiencing theatre firsthand, with hundreds more enjoying as audience members.

Our students have been rehearsing for Seussical Kids all year.

We have learned the music, the choreography, the blocking, and are still working on our lines but will be ready come June! We have loved reading all of the Dr. Seuss books and discovering how each story is woven into the musical.

This project will help provide costumes, supplies to make costumes, as well as the lighting and sound needed for our actors to be seen and heard!
