My Students

I’ve taught students with autism for 20 years. This year I decided to take my experience to another population of special needs learners with intellectual disabilities. We need so much and have so little. I’m leaving a school where I’d been for 10 years and was hesitant to take many of the things I had provided for my students over the years. I only spent little time with my new students but they left me anticipating the upcoming school year.

My Project

I’m going into a classroom that was without a permanent teacher for a while. I’m eager to create an inviting environment that encourages permanence and learning. I acquired lots of things over 20 years of teaching however much of it was not appropriate for this population of students. I donated many of my things in hopes of being blessed with things we can use. Students returning to that classroom would see a colorful, visually inviting space and know that it is a great place for learning. I thank you for being a part of making learning great! I’m looking forward to starting this scholol year.
