My students come from a variety of backgrounds and skills and are adapting to virtual and in-person therapy. Currently, the school doesn't have a variety of toys to assist with play-based therapy that would greatly benefit the children I serve who have autism. I would love to be able to provide enriching, meaningful play-based therapy for these children to help them advance toward their goals.
My Project
A diagnosis of ASD typically means delays in expressive and receptive language. Our items chosen help us teach our kiddos how to use language to make requests, answer questions, and interact with peers and adults. The items from amazon such as vocabulary learning, wh questions cards, sequence storytelling, and sentence flips help build those skills with our children by providing a variety of instructional methods as well as allowing for carryover skills into a variety of settings. The laminating pages and velcro help us build communication books for our kids where they will point to pictures to get their wants and needs met. By laminating them, we ensure they will last for multiple years.
