My Project

First course in my culinary class is to cultivate, literate well-rounded chef scholars. In Culinary Arts, we READ to feed our minds and nourish our souls. Through this project, we will be able to feed our insatiable appetite to connect with a diverse group of groundbreaking culinary heroes and culturally relevant food stories from delectable books.

I have inquisitive chef scholars, who are hungry to learn more about chefs who look like them, as well as discover cuisines reminding them of their culture as well as others.

Adding delicious literature including stories and biographies on the likes of Chefs Edna Lewis and Julia Child, Farm Activists Cesar Chavez and Delores Huerta, to America's first classically French-trained chef--slave to Thomas Jefferson, Chef James Hemings, will provide a glimpse into the lives of food revolutionaries who made a huge impact on the American culinary landscape.
