My Project

My students love science and they especially love the hands-on experiments, projects, and labs.

My favorite part of teaching is seeing my students' eyes light up when they make a discovery, or the excitement in their eyes when we "blow things up" during chemistry labs.

One of our units in eighth grade is thermal energy. The Vernier temperature probes I've requested will help students understand how thermal energy moves. The temperature is sent wirelessly to a computer, and graphed, so students can see how the temperature is increasing or decreasing for each experiment.

The seed pods will keep our hydroponic garden going throughout the year. I've also requested some supplies for Science Fair. My Advanced Science classes spend a lot of time working on their Science Fair projects. Some of the tools, like the temperature probes and pH meters will be used for experiments. Students will use the boards and headers to display their information for the fair. The diffraction glasses will be used for our waves unit. They are always a hit. 30% hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide will allow me to do some of the explosive elephant toothpaste demos for the students. They will do their own version, but these chemicals will allow them to see a large explosion like they've seen on video. There are some other miscellaneous items for our classroom as well. All of these items will increase learning and engagement, making Science a class they will always remember.
