Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm a social worker working at an amazing high school in Manhattan. The students come from very diverse backgrounds and I'm creating a wellness center to address their social and emotional needs. We all know that life can be challenging and sometimes we need to hit the reset button. Our scholars are faced with so many challenges throughout the day and have trouble identifying when they need to reset.

Serenity Space is a center that is geared to dealing with the emotional pressures many students face.

The point of this space is to help students get centered, regroup and take time out of their busy days for self-care. This space will be used to help students with meditation, relaxation and provide positive reinforcements to get through their day. It will be a mini spa to help students to clear their minds and get in touch with their emotional selves. This environment will focus on peace, positivity and healthy mindfulness practices. Fidget devices will be used to help reinforce healthy calming skills. The wall decals can create the desired effect for the environment. The goal is to help students realize when they are overwhelmed, it's important to seek self-care and self-calming routines.
