Serenity Space: Empowering Students with Calm and Care
Help me give my students A Quiet Retreat: A Sanctuary for Learning. Students need a warm and welcoming learning environment where they can be the best version of themselves.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have the privilege of teaching algebra to an incredible group of high school students, each of whom has a unique learning journey. Many of my students face challenges such as ADHD, the effects of trauma, and the realities of growing up in the inner city. Despite these obstacles, they approach learning with resilience, creativity, and determination. I love how they tackle problems head-on, think outside the box, and grow stronger every day.
To support their learning, I am creating a zen classroom environment that promotes focus, relaxation, and well-being.
The items I am requesting will help create a calming space where students feel safe and able to concentrate on their studies:
UV Therapy Lamp: Exposure to natural light improves mood and focus. Many of my students have difficulty concentrating due to ADHD and trauma. The UV lamp will simulate sunlight, helping them stay alert and engaged during class.
Stress Balls & Fidget Spinners: These tools provide an outlet for excess energy, allowing students to channel their restlessness in a productive way. They will help my students with ADHD stay grounded and focused during lessons.
Relaxation Waterfall Desktop Features: These desktop waterfalls will create a soothing visual and auditory experience that helps reduce stress and anxiety.
Liquid Sensory Viewers: The flowing movement of the liquid provides a visually engaging way for students to relax, especially during moments when they feel overwhelmed. This will be particularly helpful for students dealing with trauma
Faux Plants: Incorporating nature into the classroom helps create a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The greenery will promote relaxation, reduce stress, and contribute to an overall sense of well-being, fostering an environment conducive to learning.
