I am the resource specialist at our school. What I love most about my students is their diligence, curiosity, enthusiasm, and generosity.
Help me teach my students sequencing in a fun and interactive way.
Sequencing refers to the identification of the components of a story — the beginning, middle, and end — and also to the ability to retell the events within a given text in the order in which they occurred. The ability to sequence events in a text is a key comprehension strategy, especially for narrative texts.
Cooking and meal prepping is a great way to introduce sequencing in a fun and meaningful way. The microwave will be used to make popcorn, s’mores, and hot chocolate among other things. The waffle maker will be used to make waffles. Before we prepare these items, my students will discuss the process for each activity. I will take this opportunity to teach my students about sequence writing and the vocabulary components of sequence write. They will then write the directions of how to prepare these food items using temporal words like first, then, next and finally. After the writing and cooking is done, my student will enjoy eating what they prepared while they play cards and loteria with the requested items.
With your help, my students will be able to have fun learning about sequencing and they will be able to become better writers.
