My Students

Bright colored murals, beautiful garbs, fresh fruits and vegetables at the corner market and the smell of delicious Indian food coming from the nearby kitchen. This is the environment my students live in. Parkchester is a beautiful neighborhood that embodies the Indian culture. Unfortunately, my school is in a low-income neighborhood. Many of my students, a diverse mix of cultures too, attend a school that strives to give these eager students who are ready to learn an excellent education. Many of them are first-generation Americans and are excited to begin school!

My Project

The first day of school for my eight-year-old students is the most exciting yet nerve-racking day. They’re anxious to see their friends, curious to meet me their new teacher and ready to be a 3rd grader! Imagine sitting at your new desk and your teacher tells you to take out your fresh brand new supplies. You look around sad knowing that your parents couldn’t afford to get you the supplies you need. This unfortunately happens too often to many of my students. Supplies can be expensive and often times families cannot afford to buy them.

I am asking for your help to help me buy folders,notebooks,and pencils so my students aren’t embarrassed because they couldn’t bring in their supplies.

The first day is crucial and I will not let their spirits come down because of this. These folders will help organize their fabulous work they start to do on day one! Notebooks are needed for math and spelling and even pencil cases can all help them be ready for what third grade has to offer. Instruction starts right away so there’s not time to waste. Help my students feel successful starting on day one!
