My Project

On our list, you will see several materials and supplies that will help us create our safe, sensory corner within our special education K-2 classroom. There are many, many benefits to having sensory, safe materials within our room:

Sensory regulation helps children with autism better control their emotional responses to sensory overload or underload.

By managing how they respond to stimuli like noise, light, touch, and textures, children can experience fewer meltdowns, anxiety, or frustration.

Sensory regulation can improve social interactions by reducing sensory overload, which may lead to withdrawal or challenging behaviors. When children feel more regulated, they are more likely to participate in social situations, connect with peers, and communicate effectively.

One of the most important items on our wish list, is a swing. The rhythmic motion of sensory swings can have a calming effect, helping children reduce anxiety, stress, and sensory overload. This is especially helpful for kids who are easily overwhelmed or who experience sensory meltdowns.
