My Students

Every child has the ability to be successful in school, regardless of age, race, ability, or disability. I am a special education teacher that is part of the ASD Nest program for 24 amazing kindergarteners and first graders, all of who have their own unique qualities, talents, and strengths. Many of my students come from low-income immigrant families. These students each have their own unique set of challenges and they deserve a classroom that is conducive to their learning needs. My eager-energetic students will enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.

My Project

My students often require sensory breaks to calm down and refocus their attention on learning. A sensory area in the classroom would provide the materials needed to help my students meet their sensory, and therefore, educational needs. Due to COVID-19, I had to take away everything (yes, everything) in our sensory corner. In order for my students to be able to use sensory tools this year, each will need his or her own personal tool(s).

My students NEED sensory tools to help them self-regulate, stay calm, and to be able to learn to the best of their ability.

These tools are essential to their learning, therapy, and success. On top of that, they rely on these tools to help them cope with stress and anxiety. Sensory tools are excellent calming mechanisms. Please, help them be successful, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well!
