This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a Severe and Profound Needs Special Education Program from grades Kindergarten to Fifth grade. COVID has impacted my students greatly in understanding and learning their emotions. It's so important to be in person in order to use real world lessons when teaching emotions. Students learn through listening to stories being read to them and it is a great way to discuss what emotions the character in the story is feeling.

When COVID hit and we went to remote learning, it greatly impacted them.

All of my students are academically challenged and learning through games and hands on materials help with the retention of their learning. Having students learn their emotions through playing games is a great way to retain what they are learning. Another aspect that COVID has impacted is the sensory needs of my students. Being at home and not being with other students has impacted my students ability to regulate their sensory needs. My students need fidgets to help calm their sensory needs in order for them to stay focused and learn.
