Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach a self-contained class in a Title 1 school for students with moderate to severe autism. We work on a variety of academic tasks, but one of the main focuses is on behavior modification. Our classroom is geared toward helping our students be as independent as possible.
My students are bright, funny, loving kids who are an inspiration to me and to all the other people in their lives.
They are eager to learn and want to be successful. Although they have many challenges to overcome, they never give up. Even on their bad days, these kiddos bring a smile to my face. I love teaching them how to interact with others, how to clean up after themselves, and how to deal with their emotions. These are our day to day battles, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
My Project
Research has shown that a sensory integration approach is vital for kids with autism. My students need sensory materials, including a sensory play table. I plan to use these materials to create a sensory work station where students can go to play (work) in an environment that is conducive to the way their brains work. I plan to put numbers and letters into the sensory materials in the bins and have the students create their vocabulary words. In this way, the station will be integrated into the academic setting of our classroom.
Your donations to my classroom will have an impact on my students' lives by giving them another fun resource for learning.
They will be able to see the brand new materials and feel a sense of pride and ownership for the things in our classroom community.
