Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sensory manipulatives, such as stress balls, fidget toys, weighted blankets, and calming visuals, play a vital role in supporting high school students’ emotional and cognitive development. High school is a time of significant change and pressure, from academic expectations to social dynamics. Many students experience stress, anxiety, or difficulty focusing, which can impede their ability to learn and participate fully in class. By providing sensory tools in a calm corner, we can offer students a healthy outlet to self-regulate their emotions and refocus their energy. These items are especially beneficial for students with sensory processing issues, ADHD, or anxiety disorders, helping them stay calm, grounded, and ready to engage in learning.

Moreover, a calm corner equipped with sensory manipulatives promotes a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

It recognizes and addresses the diverse needs of students, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding. When students feel safe and supported, they are more likely to develop positive coping mechanisms, build resilience, and improve their overall well-being. Sensory manipulatives encourage mindfulness, enhance concentration, and reduce classroom disruptions by offering students a discreet way to manage their stress. By investing in these resources, we empower students to take charge of their emotional well-being, creating a classroom where every learner has the opportunity to thrive.
