Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The purpose of these sensory items is to create a learning environment that supports all students so that they can access their education. They will be better equipped to self-regulate knowing that the supports are there for them. The Wobble Stools help improve focus and posture so that our kiddos can attend for longer periods of time. The Wobble Cushions help provide sensory input along with encouraging core stability to improve posture thus helping with attention and handwriting. The bouncy bands for the desk and chair help our fidgety students get the proprioceptive input needed to organize and calm their bodies. The weighted toys and lap pad also provide that proprioceptive input so that they can further calm down and focus on their class work. For those students with more severe needs, the body socks and massage balls help provide tactile input to decrease anxiety and calm the nervous system. Our children learn through the arts and Model Magic encourages creativity along with getting that tactile sensory input they need to build fine motor skills and create. We all want children to thrive in their school environment and many of our special need students have sensory needs, making participation in everyday activities difficult for them. By addressing external sensory supports based on individual need we can help foster a calming learning environment to get to just the right place.
