Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am currently working with autistic students. Most autistic individuals have issues with their senses and require some sort of sensory input to help them feel ok. Many of them are bothered by loud noises, bright lights, and many people in one room.

Sometimes they become overstimulated during the school day and need some help to regulate their senses.

When they do become overstimulated they cannot verbalize that is how they are feeling instead they act out. They may scream, hit, kick, run away or throw themselves on the floor or against something. I want to provide them with an area in the room where they can get the sensory input they need before they have to act out. I'd like to provide my students with a calming space to help them with their sensory issues. I am requesting fidgets, squishy balls, noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets, and water beads to prevent them from getting overstimulated and if they do, to help them relax and calm down so they can go back to work.
