Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children who are wired differently, or learn with variation, need the opportunity to examine their senses through exploration. Sensory experiences can stimulate attention, creates fun, and will encourage our students to focus. Our students in special education are diagnosed with Autism spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Mood Disorders, Learning Disabilities or a combination of the above. This basically means they need smaller classroom environments and close attention to be successful.

My Project

The materials will be used to assist with learning in the areas of math, writing and reading. Play dough can be used for forming letters and motor skills. Tactile items ( clay, bubbles) encourage creative writing ideas and facilitate imagination. Also, many of our students learn better with something in their hands during a lesson. Headphones are used for those students who feel over stimulated and need to focus.

We will also use supplies to demonstrate, in the form of a sensory fair, how important it is to understand how students learn and what senses are prominent in their comprehension of a subject.

Our school encourages inclusion and volunteerism with the whole school community.
