My Project

Every day I work with students who have very unique needs. Their needs go beyond pencils and books. My students often require other tools to help them regulate their bodies and minds.

Sensory input is the answer!

There are tons of different materials, "toys" and other devices that can provide the sensory input that aid my students in self-regulating and calming themselves. My students can often become distressed from things in their surroundings, such as loud noises, lights, certain sounds, and even temperature.

My students often need extra supports, such as visual aids and other products, such as foam rollers to help produce a calming effect when they are feeling stressed. My students benefit from feeling different textures and surfaces, such as with sensory wall tiles and the sequin fabric. Sometimes they just need a few minutes to decompress in a comfortable bean bag to help them.

Then, there are times when they have a lot of built up energy that does not allow them to focus. There are feet fidgets that attach to their desks which can help them keep their bodies moving without having to leave their seats. Of course, there are times when my students need to get out of their seats and release their energy as well. The liquid floor tiles encourage them to move around in a controlled space.
