Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an occupational therapist in a public school where resources are limited. I am hoping to create a sensory room for students in my caseload with Autism, ADHD, or that demonstrate sensory dysregulation behaviors.

A sensory room has a variety of sensory equipment and materials (i.e., weighted animals, weighted vest, standing mirror, essential oils, trampoline, etc.), to provide multiple sensory experiences and help facilitate the integration of the senses, in turn, improving self-regulation skills.

In addition, because of the common materials used in a sensory room, as listed here, apart from facilitating the integration of the senses, it can also help with the development of visual perceptual, fine motor, and gross motor skills.

I think the addition of a sensory room will make a significant difference and these materials will allow me to provide the most up-to-date therapeutic methods currently used to educate the ADHD, Autism, and sensory-dysregulated population.
