My Project

Many of the children we service have special needs, autism (ASD) in particular. These children are being over stimulated in the general classroom, so we are expanding one of our rooms to give those children a place to go for a break.

Our goal is to create a sensory room that is a controlled space that provides multi-sensory experiences to help people with sensory processing challenges, regulate their emotions and improve focus.

Sensory rooms are designed to create a calming environment that can help children feel comfortable and reduce anxiety.

Sensory rooms can help children improve their focus and concentration. Sensory rooms can help children engage in learning and work more effectively. Sensory rooms can be used for therapeutic activities, such as crisis de-escalation strategies and reflective learning. Sensory rooms can promote self-care, self-nurturance, and resilience. Sensory rooms can support social and emotional learning through mindfulness activities.

Sensory rooms are often used by people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who may be hypersensitive to strong odors, loud music, or harsh lighting. They can also be used by people with ADHD who may have difficulty regulating their focus.

Sensory rooms can be simple or high-tech, and they typically contain soft furnishings and calming multi-sensory stimuli, such as textured objects, soft lighting, and calming sounds.
