My Project

This upcoming school year, we were lucky enough to be given extra space in the school to create a sensory room for our students. A sensory room helps students meet basic sensory needs in order for them to maximize their classroom learning. This will also be a safe, calming space for students that are in crisis.

A sensory room is designed to provide stimulation to each of the senses.

We will use a star projector with white noise to provide visual and auditory input. We will use a weighted blanket and an air hammock to provide proprioceptive, or deep pressure input, to help calm the nervous system. We will use a vibrating pillow to provide tactile input. Each of these items will help countless students regulate their bodies, and get to know what sensations help them to do so.
