Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have an amazing group of nineteen 4- and 5-year-old bundles of energy who began the year with almost nothing in our classroom. Our entire classroom order was delayed, and we didn't get furniture and materials until 2 months into the year. Thankfully, after a 2-month wait, we were given the necessary material to start our classroom. However, necessary may not always mean preferable for our students.

Our classroom is in desperate need of materials that appeal to our students' senses.

They need hands-on materials that they find interesting and that help them develop fine motor skills as well as creativity and collaboration skills.

The two items, I am requesting will be introduced during our small group instruction and later will be part of our interest areas where our students get a chance to explore, share, and collaborate with peers. During interest areas, students use these materials to develop their senses as well as creativity and social skills. For example, translucent rings become a place where they bury treasures. Those treasures can vary from plastic dinosaurs to letters and numbers. This type of sensory material helps a student with sensory needs to calm their energy level.

The hammering kit not only is an activity that can help students positively release energy, but it is also an activity that helps develop hand and eye coordination. Most importantly, it looks like a lot of FUN which is what I am looking for for my students.

Little by little, with coupons and deals I find at the Dollar Store, Offer-Up, and other stores, I have been able to find material my students find interesting; however, some materials are too expensive, and I can only dream of obtaining them with the help of generous donors.

Thank you in advance.
