My Project

We need to have sensory materials in our classroom. Many of my students are struggling with social emotional skills, especially with self-regulation of their emotions. So much of what we are doing in PreK revolves around building the social skills of our students so they are better prepared to enter kindergarten next year. Unfortunately, many of these young children are really struggling with how to interact with their peers in a positive way.

My young learners are trying to figure out how to understand and control a lot of big feelings.

Research has shown that sensory play can help students self-regulate their emotions, leading to less meltdowns and more opportunities for learning in our classroom. I am hopeful that these materials, such as the sand and water table and playdough will help my students by giving them ways to calm themselves when they feel they need it.

The cups will allow them to get drink when they need it. Staying hydrated helps keep them calm and allow them to learn. The sublimation paper will allow them to create designs they can share with their families and the ziploc bags will be used for storage of materials in the classroom.
