Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Working with children with special needs including autism and learning delays can often cause limited attention and behaviors. Limited materials and toys has made behavior management difficult for my speech students to target skills and language. I hope to use our donations to purchase these sensory toys to help my students get the sensory input that they need during speech therapy at school.

In order to target language and comprehension and reduce their challenging behavior, they need enough sensory play and input to meet their sensory needs.

Having these different sensory toys will provide my students the tools to help them to feel stimulated and release their energy. They will be engaged and learning language through unique tools. Sensory bins help my students feel like they are discovering new vocabulary in a fun way. Also, the sensory play with these sensory toys prompt my students' fine-motor skills, language development, and social-emotional skills. These are hands-on activities that will at the same time lead to new language learning outlets.
