My Students

My co-teacher and I are extremely lucky to teach some of the most kind-hearted, smart, and motivated fourth grade students in Brooklyn, NY. We are a part of a special classroom environment, ASD Nest (Autism Spectrum Disorder Integrated Classroom) which we are so lucky to have at our school. Within our classroom and school community, flexibility is key and our students exhibit this daily. Our students are out of the box thinkers and have various special needs, both socially and academically. As teachers that are always looking to learn and grow both with and for our students, we are constantly looking for new materials and supports that will help better address these various special needs! After all, with students that are as great as ours, we owe it to them!

My Project

As teachers in a ASD Nest class, we know that flexibility and differentation is key. Having these resources will be extremely beneficial to the students in helping them stay focused to learn.

Having various sensory materials and flexible seating options available to our students, can allow them to feel most comfortable in their learning environment, as well as increase the likelihood of on task behavior both academically and socially.

For example, fidgets are utilized to stay focused and calm. Flexible seating like the wobble chair allows students to focus while moving. We know not all students learn and work in the same way which is why we want to make our classroom environment as open and flexible as possible. Please help make our classroom become more ASD friendly for students who don't deserve anything less than amazing!
