Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are outstanding! They are special needs students spanning a wide range of cognitive and physical disabilities. Despite my students being autistic, mentally challenged, or having to use a walker to navigate the school building, they bring a wealth of happiness and love into the school building. Due to the challenges that some of my students face, there are times when they do get frustrated and overwhelmed. As a result, they need sensory materials and locations with sensory items to help them calm down and soothe themselves so that they can rejoin their everyday classroom activities. The sensory mats and the frog hop play scape are amazing tools to help the students sooth/relax themselves. Many autistic children like to take their shoes and socks off during the day. The sensory mats will allow these students to rub their feet across the mats and have their feet stimulated by the various textures of the mats. At times this can sooth the children and calm them down when they get agitated or upset. The playscape hop scotch set will afford students opportunities to engage in creative game play movements. The hop scotch game will also allow students to work on their fine and gross motor skills.
