The items I selected will be used to create a peaceful safe space for students to regain control over their own emotions. The flexible seating will provide a more comfortable place to sit while selecting a sensory object such as a stress ball, fidget magnet, or calming activity to help to refocus their energy. Liquid motion timers will provide students with a visual way to select the appropriate amount of time to calm and return to class with their friends. While they maintain positive energy, students will be able to give their full focus to develop their writing skills while modeling good behavior for students who need deeper pressure to self-regulate.
Teaching children how to keep themselves in control in emotionally charged situations will help them enormously throughout their schooling and lives.
When children feel great frustration, anger, sadness or anxiety, they become confused and may be unsure how to control their emotions. This also provides opportunities for diffusing a negative emotion or situation before it escalates. Despite the challenges they face daily, these students are unique and wonderful in their own ways. My classroom goal is to create a positive learning environment where they feel safe and motivated to learn every day. My personal goal is to help my students manage their emotions in order for them to have a positive outlook each day with a sensory room created with controlled sensory-focused equipment allows the sensory experience to be individualized to meet the specific needs of students.
Providing them with an art3d liquid fusion activity center, sensory lighting, and flexible seating will allow them to have access to tools that will help them develop self-regulating skills. The goal is that the students learn to use the area regularly for self-regulation. This practice leads to fewer behavioral disruptions.
