My Project
I teach grades 1-5, in a program called ABLE. ABLE is focused on students with autism. My students are special because they each bring something special and different to the class. Our class is so much fun and we laugh all day with each other.
My students have an array of sensory needs.
They love being outside. It creates a sense of calmness in all of them. I would like to create a special space for them. They can read, they can play with the sensory items. We will have a community garden as well, with the hopes to give back to the community. This sensory garden will benefit not only my students in the school but for other students who may just need a quiet and peaceful place to go to. There are many benefits to being in nature and teaching them how to garden as well. The process and the patience it takes. There are many lessons being learned within this project. The cozy cubes will serve as a quiet place for students outside. The trampoline will be used for the ones who have so much excitement and energy. The sensory swing will be used for those who have specific sensory needs. The stepping stones will be used to help those who need a little more help with learning balance. The garden items are so very important because they help increase motor skills within each of my students. The garden bench will be a place for them to read. Each item is specifically thought out and will create a wonderful area for my students.
