My Students

My students are fun-loving, eager to learn children with special needs ranging in grades from kindergarten through first grade. They attend a K-1 self-contained Special Ed class in a public school in Queens.

My students are supported with hands-on activities and topics they enjoy.

They love to learn about animals, plants and the natural world.

Students often work in small groups to develop academic and social skills. They are learning to collaborate with their peers and share ideas and express themselves through learning experiences.

My Project

Sensory areas provide a safe place where students with disabilities can calm down and redirect their frustration and anxiety in order to refocus and learn to express themselves in a positive way. A sensory area is a great way to give a child a place they can go on their own and help self-regulate if needed.

Students can touch and play with toys that provides a sensory input which stimulates their brain and their emotions.

This sensory experience is paired positive language so they can learn to express themselves appropriately.
