Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom have all been diagnosed with autism. As a result they are all nonverbal or very minimally verbal. My main focus with my students is to improve their cognitive, social and language skills.

Sensory toys are key to help my students stay focused and on task.

This is a gift I would like help all my students develop while in my classroom. My students are very sensory. Therefore, I incorporate sensory toys and games in each lesson. Unfortunately this becomes expensive which is why I am turning to Donors choose. Please help me help my students.

My Project

This project that I put together focuses on sensory toys and games. My students need and enjoy playing with toys like Slinkies, magnetic tiles, sensory balls etc. These items are used as reinforcers for my students when they complete a given task.

Highly desired reinforcers are key in helping my students attend and complete their task.

Sensory items are very simply incorporated into the classroom routine. For example, before work time, students can request a sensory toy to work towards. Once they complete their work, they receive the item as a reward. As a result, they pair their work and sensory toys (which is highly desired) together, making it a much more enjoyable task. This is crucial in helping us teach our students the skills they need to succeed. Thank you in advance for your support.
