Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of our students have intense sensory needs or present with sensory processing issues. Student demonstrate sensory seeking behaviors including proprioceptive, tactile, and vestibular. At the moment, we do not have any sensory equipment that they can utilize to regulate their bodies.

The sensory equipment being requested in this project aim to give these students an outlet to calm and regulate their bodies, emotions, and sensory needs to further enhance their academic performance.

Items like the sensory sack, crash pad, and weighted blanket offer proprioceptive input (deep touch pressure and heavy work) that produces a calming effects for students. Other items such as the hammock swing or the therapy ball offer vestibular input that allows the students to meet their need for head and body movement as well as improve their attention and behavior.

Overall, these sensory tools will be utilized by the related service provider team (SLP, OT, & PT) to allow these students regulation, a sensory diet, or warm-up to improve and enhance their academic performance. Our goal is to give our students the tools they need in order to promote independence within the classroom and create future leaders!
