Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us hear, see, touch and experience the world around us! Our students are diagnosed with Autism and learning disabilities and have difficulty coping with everyday challenges. Help us facilitate dynamic sensory experiences so underprivileged students can flourish in school.

All our students attend an inner city public school in New York City in a low income community.

The majority of the students we service are males. They are sweet kids who lack the appropriate resources to reach their full learning potential. Each child's diagnosis varies whether it is on the autistic spectrum or some type of learning disability. With a wide range of diagnoses, limited resources can limit their potential and access to the educational environment.

My Project

Many children with autism and special needs experience sensory integrative disorders which impact their ability to engage in their environment in a successful way. As per research, sensory disorders create challenges for children in the areas of social skills, activities of daily living, gross and fine motor abilities. The items we are requesting such as a weighted vest, fidget ball, trampoline and crash pad will help children access the educational environment and facilitate growth and understanding of academics in a fun, functional and educational manner. The items listed here will enable students to become alert, increase attention span and get their bodies ready to learn.
