Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My youngest students are 4 years old and my oldest are 15 years old (preK-8th grade). I love the diversity of our school and learning about each and every one of them and what makes them so special.

All my students are unique and are seen as individuals with their own strengths and resources.

I am amazed every time I see how much resilience children have and how much they can achieve when they know that someone believes in them. The sky is the limit for them... and I want to offer them the world.

My Project

All of our students are coming back physically to our school after what we can honestly say was one of the hardest 18 months of their lives, whether they were learning from home or at school. Unfortunately many of our students struggle with anxiety and depression and my hope, as their school counselor, is to make sure school is a fun and safe environment for all, and help them emotionally.

Making Calming Bottles or Sensory Jars have been known to help reduce anxiety in children.

And I can't wait to use those supplies with our students and see their faces and the level of anxiety decrease. Students will get to use the jars, glitters, glue and food coloring to make special bottles representing their personality and helping them calm down. We will also use the light and sound machine to help create that perfect safe environment while talking about her feelings. We will use the white board to help brainstorm some other calming strategies they can use at home or in school.
