Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are school aged and are in special education. Many of them have trouble with most independent aspects of home and school life . They have Downs Syndrome, Autism, and Intellectual Disabilities. These items requested will help with independence in their daily lives. The students are very nice and are really happy little children. There are things that they need that would make them happier and feel more a part of their environment at school. They have fine and gross motor delays along with their cognitive development delays. They are in need of items that will help them becoming independent and functional in their daily world and school environment. They require many manipulatives to help them learn basic reading and math skills. They also require sensory items to keep them calm and be able to complete tasks that are required in the classroom. It helps for them to have a calming space with calming furniture and items to use in order to calm down and take a break. Many of the children have difficulty sitting in typical classroom chairs during circle time.

My Project

These items will help children with varying disabilities to compete with their typical peers in the general education classrooms. They will be able to use IPads like they are used in the general education classroom. They will also help inspire ideas pertaining to project based learning at her school. These children will get more exposure to being with typical peers.

They will be exposed to a break area with sensory items that will help with calming them.

Then they will be able to have breaks to meet their sensory needs so that they can successfully return to learning tasks. They will be calmed by the comfortable chairs and sensory items that they will be able to use in the sensory area of the classroom.

Many of the children have low body tone and are in need of daily exercise beyond what they are getting at home and one hour of daily physical education. Their bodies need the exercise to help build muscle so that they will have more energy. A stationary bicycle will also help with pushing them to their fullest potential when it comes to exercising their bodies.
