Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are all on the autism spectrum and therefore have extra sensory and social communication needs!

Having sensory equipment handy can help during a stressful transition or dysregulated day.

For example, some of our students are extra active after lunch and recess. In order to successfully transition them back to the classroom, they need sensory activities in order to help them self-regulate back to a state where they can sit and participate in the classroom routine. Liquid tiles, stepping stones, a trampoline, and a sensory tunnel will create a fun obstacle course for our students. Wobble chairs and balance boards provide flexible seating options for students who need more sensory input during group activities.

Some students need help understanding their feelings and behaviors and benefit greatly from visuals and social stories. Books about feelings, mindfulness, and self-control can help our students learn valuable ways to learn about themselves and how to interact with others.

By having access to these resources, our students can smoothly move through their days and spend more time learning and working with their friends.
