My Students

My students are a diverse group of kids from the East NY section of Brooklyn growing up in low income families. My students are finally coming back into the school building after a year and half of remote learning. Many of the students come from local shelters and need extra LOVE, CARE, and SUPPORT at school. My students are creative, thoughtful innovative and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

Every child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, and my students are becoming enthusiastic learners.

In my self contained classroom I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

Providing my students with sensory items such as fidget tools can make a huge difference to our learning experience. In a special education classroom, students can easily become frustrated, anxious and face many feelings throughout the school day. It is often very hard for them to learn and stay focused when they are having a difficult time. Many students; especially special education students need to fidget when learning or while working. This helps keep their anxiety and frustration levels low. My classroom this year I have a wide range of abilities and personalities, and finding the right tools will help make a difference in their education.

Sensory tools are useful to students with ADHD, autism, and sensory disorders which is the majority of my class.

My goal is provide students with the tools that can help with self-regulation, attention, and calming. They provide sensory stimulation that can allow students to focus on classwork.

The headsets with the microphones will provide students an opportunity to complete tasks with the voice to text features. I also want to provide individual supply baskets to ensure safety in the classroom.
