My Students

I am a preschool through fifth grade speech-language pathologist at OME. Most of my caseload consists of preschool and K-2 students, including special education students. My students are diverse learners who come from a variety of backgrounds. We work together in small and whole groups to build the very language skills needed to be successful in school and beyond.

Many of my students have attention deficit, sensory-based needs, and autism.

All of my students are kids and moving is a big deal! My hope for my students is that when they leave me, they are able to successfully communicate with others in and outside of the school environment. With these additional resources, I believe the communication skills of my early childhood students and beyond will grow.

My Project

We all learn best when we are most comfortable. The 60+ speech and language students at OME are a diverse group of learners. Students who have speech and language disorders also may have attention deficit, learning disabilities, sensory processing needs, autism, and other disorders. All of my students are CHILDREN who learn best when they feel best!

I would like to help my students learn better is by providing flexible seating and handheld items that can help meet their sensory needs.

When sensory needs are met, students can attend better to lessons in our small group setting. Every child is different and this is a great start to helping my early childhood preschoolers and older students succeed, grow in their communication and life in general.

I see students in small groups ranging from 1-4 students in my speech classroom. We use both small group table seating and carpet seating, based on the activity. Wobble chairs can be used at our small group speech room table and at our side work table. Three chairs in two heights can accommodate children of various sizes. The four requested soft seats can be utilized on the carpet during our carpet area portion of the lesson or in other parts of the classroom as necessary. Additionally, by providing students appropriate fidget items and sensory toys, negative behaviors may be reduced and attention can increase. By giving students the choice of how they focus in my classroom, I hope to empower them on their journey to increase their speech and language skills. Thank you!
