Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We come together in the early spring, and then again in mid summer and all through the fall to be our best. To play, to compete, to have fun and to learn. We bring our love of the game and then take it from there. We are committed to representing our school and females everywhere on the soccer field.

My students are full of passion, spirit and love.

They have faced every obstacle imaginable but the opportunity to play soccer for them evens out the playing field for them in more ways than one. They have watched the glory of the US women's team and still see the inequities. They play because they are not represented as young women of color in this international sport and they want to be seen and they will use this opportunity to grow, learn and be healthy in mind and body.

My Project

My students need every possible tool such as balls, shin guards and goalie gloves when it comes to playing the game of soccer. Imagine showing up to a field on a hot summer day to play and learn and become the best player you can be. Imagine their is minimal equipment and resources. There are only two or three soccer balls. You do your best. You commit. But, you want more. That is what this donation will provide. More. It is just the basics but our programming has been functioning without even that and we still thrive because the girls love the game. They will show up. I want them to show up and have what they need to do every drill that can make them the dream they dream. So I am requesting enough balls that we will have a set large enough so student athletes can work on more individualized skills like dribbling, shooting and cutting. The cones will allow them to do drills that increase their agility and awareness of space on the field as well as create a field when we don't have one. And finally we will have real goalie gloves!

In this year, our first year with an official team, we had three soccer balls in OK condition.

We had no field. We had no sense of belonging. I don't think anyone can understand how much a professional bag full of brand new soccer balls can say to a group of young women who want to be their best. It says -- yes you can! Every girl who commits to this program gives it over 100%. It is time for them to see that they are valued and that doesn't take more than new soccer balls.
